‘Pacific Peoples and the Criminal Justice System in Aotearoa New Zealand’ details the stories of Pacific peoples who have engaged with the criminal justice system both personally and professionally. Report 1 traces the existing research relating to Pacific peoples and the law, identifying what exists, what is missing and what questions needs to be asked. Report 2 provides the responses from more than 50 Knowledge Holders about their experiences in the criminal justice system, as well as offering recommendations for a transformative justice future. In sum, the research recommends that transformation is only possible if our collective vision is grounded in abolition, decolonisation and upholding Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
