“Islands and Ocean: Public Law in a Plural World”, 9th Annual Conference of the International Society of Public Law (ICON•S) hosted by the New Zealand Centre for Public Law at the Faculty of Law of Te Herenga Waka – Victoria University of Wellington.
About the project
The New Zealand Centre for Public Law will host the International Society of Public Law (ICON•S) annual meeting on 3–5 July 2023 at the Faculty of Law of Te Herenga Waka – Victoria University of Wellington. Each year, the ICON•S conference attracts hundreds of delegates from around the globe, in all fields of public law and related subjects, including criminal justice, family law, and access to civil justice.
The conference has never been held in Oceania, and we are excited about the possibilities this opens. We are expecting around 600 participants, with four plenary events and over one hundred parallel panels. The conference theme in 2023 will be “Islands and Ocean: Public Law in a Plural World”. This theme focuses attention on concerns which are distinctive to Aotearoa and Moana-nui-a-Kiwa, such as the preservation of the natural environment, the effects of climate change and the roles and rights of Indigenous peoples and cultures.
