ICON•S Aus–NZ chapter conference: He mahi raranga – Infusion and diffusion of Australasian public law

This biennial conference brings together people from the International Society of Public Law (ICON•S) community – public law academics, practitioners and office-holders – throughout Australia, New Zealand and Pacific for a mix of plenary and panel sessions over three days.

About the project

The Australia and New Zealand chapter of ICON•S provides a community of interest for public law academics, practitioners and office-holders. Its biennial conference is the marquee event in its calendar, amongst other seminars and activities.

The conference is hosted this year by the NZ Centre for Public Law at Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington on 26-28 August 2026. The conference proceedings are a mix of plenary and parallels panels interrogating the infusion and diffusion within of Australasian public law. Plenary topics include indigenisation of the law curriculum, the automated state, judging in an age of distrust and new directions in constitutionalism.

About The New Zealand Centre for Public Law

The New Zealand Centre for Public Law (www.wgtn.ac.nz/public-law) has, since 1996, provided a forum for discussion among law faculty staff, overseas academics, New Zealand public servants, and others with a stake in public law. The Centre organises a busy programme of activities, including its annual Government Law: Year in Review conference, along with topical public lectures, seminars and roundtables; the Centre also regularly hosts the ANZSIL conferences and other international law symposia.
