About the project
Adhikaar Aotearoa will host Justice Michael Kirby AC CMG during his visit to Aotearoa New Zealand to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Homosexual Law Reform Act 1986. Justice Kirby is one of the Commonwealth’s most distinguished jurists and a longstanding advocate for human rights and LGBTI+ equality. During his visit, he will engage with a wide range of audiences through public lectures at Victoria University of Wellington and the University of Waikato on the role of law as a force for social change. He will also meet with rainbow law students at both universities, deliver a seminar to the New Zealand Law Commission, and meet with members of the senior courts.
In addition, Justice Kirby will participate in commemorative events marking the anniversary of homosexual law reform, providing an opportunity to reflect on New Zealand’s legal progress while encouraging continued dialogue about equality, justice, and human rights.
