Shay’s plan

Shay will use the Borrin Travel and Learning Award to support a 14-day study tour to Australia to investigate approaches to biodiversity protection on private property, including biodiversity credit frameworks, biodiversity stewardship payments, private land conservation incentives and regional biodiversity strategies. She plans to meet with environmental practitioners, scientists, government agencies, NGOs and First Nations peoples and attend the Environment Institute of Australia and New Zealand’s annual conference, which brings together practitioners from Australia and New Zealand to discuss environmental issues.

About Shay

Shay is a resource management lawyer with 20 years of experience. She began her career as EDS’s first in-house counsel before working in chambers and for Brookfields Lawyers in Auckland. Shay is now EDS’s Chief Operating Officer and General Counsel. She has completed in-depth reports on reform of the Land Act 1948 and the Wildlife Act 1953. She is a current member of the High Country Advisory Group.
