Anna will be using the grant to visit both Chicago and Oxford to further her networks and expertise in the fields of mindfulness as legal pedagogy and mindfulness as a professional practice skill for lawyers.

About Anna

Anna High is a socio-legal scholar who has adopted a “law in action” approach to three main areas of interest: feminist theory/sexual violence, evidence law, and Chinese law. She has also published in the area of legal education/pedagogy. She is co-director of the Otago Centre for Law and Society. In 2022, Anna was awarded the Royal Society Te Apārangi Early Career Research Excellence Award for Humanities.

Anna is a leading advocate for mindfulness in legal education and practice in Aotearoa. She is founder and co-director of the Aotearoa New Zealand Mindfulness in Law Society, a local chapter of the US-based non-profit Mindfulness in Law Society. She is also a recipient of a prestigious Ako Aotearoa national teaching award, in recognition of the proven impact of her mindful pedagogy on future lawyers.

Grant Amount

$10,000 in 2026 to support travel

These opportunities will extend my ability to offer mindfulness training to students and practitioners of law here in Aotearoa.”
