Presentations to Law Students on Legal Publication

This project seeks to educate law students around Aotearoa New Zealand about academic publication by delivering seminars at each law school about researching, writing and publishing legal articles.

About the project

Law students are the next generation of lawyers and legal researchers and have many valuable ideas to share with the wider legal community. The New Zealand Law Students’ Journal has the privilege of seeing many of these ideas, reading a significant volume of student work in preparation for each issue.

However, it is clear that many students are not well-acquainted with the techniques, style and formatting used in preparing academic articles for publication. Nor are they familiar with the publication process. As a result, many potentially valuable contributions to legal scholarship, which start their lives as essays or dissertations, do not see the light of day. With the support of the Borrin Foundation, the New Zealand Law Students’ Journal aims to change this by educating law students about legal publication through a series of seminars at each of New Zealand’s six law schools. These seminars will cover the process of legal research, writing and publication from the perspective of those with experience in academic publishing.
