Netsafe’s Chatbot “Kora” cares 24/7 about your online experiences and keeping safe online

Netsafe.org.nz’s chatbot pilot will try to answer more New Zealander’s questions about online safety and triage enquiries from our website into our complaint pathways and into other legal processes.

About the project

Kora is Netsafe’s first chatbot produced with Borrin Foundation Funding. Kora works to answer questions about the Harmful Digial Communications Act, digital safety concerns and online safety issues and how to resolve complaints. A goal of the chatbot experience is to take enquiries around the clock, provide greater access to justice through digital innovation and to free up frontline staff to handle more complex legal matters. The grant also supports legal review of the questions and answers to ensure consistency with current laws and complaint options. Netsafe receives more than 20,000 incident reports a year related to online safety and promotion of the chatbot is a way for New Zealanders to access information to exercise legal rights when the contact centre is closed or an email may go unreplied for 24 hours.
